The short version
- Choose ceramic (clear) braces if visibility matters most: photos, client meetings, performances. The tooth-colored brackets blend with your smile.
- Choose metal braces if durability and value matter most: they are the strongest appliance, the most affordable, and colored bands make them fun for kids.
What is actually different
Visibility. Ceramic brackets are translucent and photograph quietly. Metal is, well, metal, though modern brackets are far smaller than the ones from your yearbook.
Durability. Metal brackets shrug off almost anything. Ceramic is strong but more brittle, so very heavy bites or contact-sport habits sometimes favor metal.
Comfort and treatment time. Identical mechanics, identical timelines. Neither moves teeth faster; the wire does the work in both.
Cost. Metal is usually the most affordable option; ceramic runs modestly higher for the bracket material. Both start with payment plans from $149 a month.
